Emotion inside out:  From cartoon neuroscience to the predictive brain

Lisa Barrett, PhD

University Distinguished Professor of Psychology and Director of the Interdisciplinary Affective Science Laboratory, Northeastern University

Does your brain contain distinct blobs of brain circuitry for happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, and fear, like the cartoon characters in Pixar's recent movie Inside Out? This talk will review several decades of research to reveal the surprising ways in which the brain constructs emotional experiences. These findings are creating a paradigm shift in the science of how the brain creates the mind.
